About the Rock Imaging Special Interest Group

The special interest group was originally formed by Ross Davidson and Nick Coles after the 2020 international summit on rock imaging, iRIS-2020, which they had jointly organised. Very sadly, Nick died in May 2023 after a long illness but his enthusiasm and ideas continue to inspire us.

In 2026, the Rock Imaging Special Interest Group was registered as a Scottish charity, registration number: SC055442. The organisation is now run by its trustees on behalf of its members. As of mid-2026, there were 900 subscribed members from around the world.

The Rock Imaging Special Interest Group serves as a place for sharing, learning and collaborating with peers in industry and academia for the purpose of advancing knowledge and best practices in the field of rock imaging, whatever the purpose.

This is supported by:

• Sharing experiences through presentations at the annual summit
• Running training courses or workshops to enhance awareness and understanding
• Providing written content for the website
• Participation in online webinars
